About Us

The vinorati website was built by Lisa and Frédéric Roskam. It is intended to be a place where they and other wine lovers can keep track of wines they have tasted, easily and efficiently. The secondary goal is to create a reference of wines, wineries and regions using tagging technology.

Lisa Roskam (originally Lisa Thurston) is an English-speaking "Canadienne". She studied Mathematics in Canada many moons ago and worked in California during the short-lived dot.com boom (it was nice while it lasted). Finally she made her part-time preoccupation with wine into a full-time occupation and immersed herself in the Viticulture & Enology program at UC Davis in California. With her brand new M.Sc. in hand she moved to the winemaking capital of the world - France. She has since worked in small chateaux and in large wine production facilities, in France and in New Zealand.

Frédéric is a (French-speaking obviously!) Frenchman. He studied Electronic Engineering at ENSERG in Grenoble, France and then did a Masters in Music/Acoustics/Information Science at IRCAM in Paris. His family owns a small winery in Saint-Emilion, where his older brother is the winemaker.

A love of wine was born early for both Frédéric and Lisa, growing up in families where food and wine were important parts of life's pleasures. They have tasted their way through various wine-growing regions of the world, but still are excited to explore new wines, from both near and far, such as Germany (right next door but very hard to find in France), Spain, South Africa, Australia and South America.
