For our inaugural tasting I think we should start with something easy for everyone...
Champagnes? We can all easily get ahold of a bottle of champagne.
I propose that we all open a nice bottle of bubbley next Friday (the 23rd) and then comment on it here.
Cheers!

How about we do rose champagnes just to make it a little more fun?

Sounds good to me!
It's rose champagnes on the 23rd then. I'm already planning the appetizers... something with scallops I think. I've seen some nice looking fresh ones at the market recently.

It was my sister-in-law's birthday so we sprung for the Veuve Clicqot Rose last night and it was excellent! Loads of fruit in the nose and the perfect sweetness and acidity in the mouth. We had as an aperitif before dinner and with our appetizers and everyone really enjoyed it.
Apparently Veuve Clicquot was the first Champagne house to ship (make?) a rose champagne in 1775. They also make a Reserve and a vintage verions of their rose, but they were a little beyond our budget.
I'm looking forward to seeing how you guys made out.
Cheers,
Sam

The rose champagne sounds like a great idea for our first tasting. Pink champagne always seems celebratory to me, even more so than the regular white version. It will make an auspicious start for the weekend.

The Veuve Clicquot sounds very nice. The advantage with the Veuve Clicquot products is that they are widely distributed so it's always easy to find more.
We chose a wine from a small producer in Bouzy - Andre Clouet. I have to admit that I was influenced by the pretty label, but my local caviste assured me that it was delicious. Indeed we were very pleased with the choice from the beginning to the end - elegant and balanced both in the nose and the mouth. It went very well with my scallops too!
